Oyen Pioneer Elevator Demoliton: Another One Bites the Dust

I was in Oyen in 2010 and saw this elevator. I didn't bother to take a shot of it. I "knew" it would be around for another trip. I never learn.

I was in Brandon MB this past summer and the grain elevator at 20St and Brandon Ave had "disappeared' from the skyline as I was coming into town. I'd shot it the previous year and was in Brandon due to car related issues. The next morning I went to the location and .. just a small portion of the elevator was left and it was lying on it's side. I may get around to uploading some shots of it in the future. Disappointing and depressing.

I agree with you on your assessment regarding the way these iconic town structures are demolished.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the Ference family owns both the Kirriemuir and Altario elevators. The Kirriemuir elevator had paint in good enough shape that the crew was able to update the original graphics.

Unfortunately, the paint on the UGG elevator in Altario was so far gone that it received only a generic paint job, which I suppose is better than nothing.

I'm very grateful that the owner didn't just push them over like so many others have. I still think the best elevator restoration I've seen is Schopfer Farms in Chauvin. Very classy.

Just remembered... The Alberta Pool elevator in Dawson Creek is noteworthy as elevator museums go. The right hand side is a multi-story art museum featuring top flite work from locals. Most impressive and was one of the highlights of the trip for me. I have some pics of the interior somewhere, but I didn't post them online as they contain other people's art work.
