If I'd have known you were going to shelve your 7D when you got your G1X I'd have bought it from you rather than buying a new one.

Not shelved, forgotten. I meticulously packed the 7D, 5D, and 20D last night with all three cable releases, spare batteries, and spare cards. Also grabbed the G1 X "emergency kit" which consists of the G1 X and a card and batteries. Got to New Brigden, opened the door, and...

All of my dSLRs and all three tripods had been left at home. Left for a photo outing without the photo gear, thus <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/mccormickphoto" rel="nofollow">my tweets</a> last night. I had to maneuver the van into the position I wanted and then use that suction cup mount camera holder that goes inside my vehicle to latch the G1 X to the exterior of the van. I felt like a complete ass, but I'm glad I was able to salvage something from the evening.

Kind of bombed my original plans to do multi-camera setups at the same sites. :(

You can do night work with the G1 X, but it is not as easy as using a dSLR, which is my preference.

It's no surprise any more (at least for me), what can be done with compact cameras, but it's fascinating to see something like that every time nevertheless.
