Trying to get back into a night shooting vibe these days. It was nice and warm out, but there was too much traffic. Headlights kept contaminating my shots.

please let me know your settings for this great photo... I would like to buy a G1-X for doing night shots but I hesitate, perhaps its not better as i've reed than my old Nikon D80

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/artbuck] ISO 200, f/8, 60 second exposure x 3, top two images stacked in Photoshop in SCREEN blending mode to add to the brightness of the two layers below. There was enough light I could use the AF instead of having to switch to manual.

I will say that your D80 is probably more pleasant to use, but that the G1 X will give you a few more megapixels, a nicer looking file, and more dynamic range by virtue of the newer sensor. This is not an easy camera to night shoot with, but it is possible.

So... 3 images and many operations for having this result, it's not a surprise ;-) I would like have the same with only one... And your remark about switching to manual focus in low light condition make me afraid...

Perhaps a Sony NEX 5n would be better for the same price...
