this is really special ..... i so want to learn how to shoot infrared ..... this is film? i'm not familiar with DiMAGE7.

It was my first digital camera. It was released in the summer of 2001 and I bought mine right away. Here's <a href="http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/minoltadimage7/" rel="nofollow">the review</a>. Slap a Hoya R72 filter on the front and you have a decent little IR unit. I still have mine, but I don't use it much out here because of the high winds and long exposures required. Thinking of having my 20D body converted to IR as it's just gathering dust in the spare gear cabinet now.

i have a 40D that's collecting dust ..... i've been reading about converting cameras to infrared and all the stuff that goes along with it but it's new territory for me so i find it a bit overwhelming, need to keep reading ... i hope by this summer i will have taken the plunge and will taking fabulous images like this one!

Most camera sensors are highly sensitive to IR. They have a filter in place that limits the amount of IR passing. You can slap a filter on the front of the camera that takes out most everything but near IR wavelengths of light, but depending on the type of camera and sensor filter, you could be looking at an exposure time of several minutes. That doesn't work since all the best landscape IR photos have trees.

The modding removes the stock IR filter, and installs a special filter that takes out normal light and lets through near IR light, while maintaining normal shutter times. The only problem is that the camera is now good ONLY for IR photography. Other than that, works like a damn. Lifepixel is the best company for conversion, I'm told.
